The Arctiidae family (tiger moths) includes many familiar caterpillars found wandering about gardens and over roads. The densely hairy caterpillars are conspicuously colored. Their hairs typically bear numerous minute barbs (visible with a hand lens). Most forest species eat a wide range of trees, shrubs, and herbs.
