The Noctuidae family (Cutworms or Owlet Moths) is the largest family of Lepidoptera, (more than 1/4 of all species of butterflies and moths). Caterpillars are diverse in both habit and form, rather stout, and cryptically shaded in brown and green. Some are hairy. Species in the family include species that feed on foliage, flowers, lichen, and litter.
