High School Interns The lab has provided research opportunities for a number of high school students interested in internships. The most recent interns were Karen Murillo and Miriam Murillo of Eleanor Roosevelt High School. The title of there project was "Detection of predators by Caterpillars: Characterizing the Vibratory environment of a Caterpillar." The objectives of this study was to address which signals determined how caterpillars distinguish between potential predators and abiotic factors. The hypothesis in this study was that the frequency spectra of the substrate-borne vibrations prouduced by predators was different from the frequency spectra of the substrate-borne vibrations produced by abiotic factors.
